If you wake up one morning and it's been cold all night and you've got no water, check all the fixtures in your kitchen and bathrooms and if there's no water flowing in your sink's faucet, you may need to call a plumber. A frozen pipe can lead to a very serious problem like causing the water in your pipes to burst. Some things that you can do to prevent it is to make sure that any pipes that are exposed to the elements especially during the winter are covered. Here are some signs that you should we aware of if your pipes are frozen:

1. No water flow.
Turn on your water and if there is no water flowing out of your faucet, you may have a frozen pipe. Check around the pipes if there are any leaks before you confirm that your pipes are frozen. If there are no leaks, check to see for any burst in your pipe. If you do see one, it’s best to contact your plumber to have it repaired immediately. Make sure to check all the pipes and fixtures around your home that may have the possibility of bursting.

2. Temperature Starts to Drop.
There is always a chance that your pipes can get frozen overnight especially during cold weathers. Because at night, the temperature drops and it gets colder and colder. Watching your daily weather forecast could really save you from any trouble in the future for it will help you be aware of the temperature and to be prepared for any pipe heating.

3. Frost on your pipes.
Frost can be visibly seen by just inspecting your water pipes. Any pipes that are exposed in the bathroom or kitchen sinks, the garage and basement should be thoroughly inspected for any frost. If a frost has formed, it is a sign that you pipe has frozen. One way to prevent your pipes from forming any frost and from freezing is to insulate the pipes.

4. Strange smell in the sink
You wake up one morning, went straight to the bathroom, and you smell something strange and stinky. This may be a sign of a blocked frozen pipe. Someone might’ve washed something dirty in the sink and the frozen water in the pipe is blocking the dirty water to flush down and it will soon create a foul odor.

What can cause your pipes to freeze?
If your pipes are not protected by heat or insulation, it has the possibility to freeze. It gets colder during at night especially during the winter season or cold weathers which may lead to the freezing and bursting of your pipes.
