DIY Fix for Slow Tub Drain

Having a bathtub at home gives you so much relaxation, even when thinking of dipping into it, it already makes you feel relaxed. But isn’t it annoying when the person before you used it still has the water on the tub? Well, that can be so disappointing and disgusting. But don’t blame the person before you who used, maybe your tubs’ drain is draining the water slowly, the draining system might not be as efficient as how it was before. There are a lot of reasons why that problem occurs.

One reason why your tubs’ drain drains slowly is that it might be clogged or a single obstacle is blocking wastewater to flow. You must have been throwing away solid materials in your tubs’ drain that’s why it drains slowly. You guilty? Well, me too. But before we get to the DIY part of how to fix your problem, let’s talk about preventing your tubs’ drain to get clogged again.

First, use a drain cover for your tub, this would not allow any unwanted solid materials from entering your tubs’ drain. Second avoid solid and unwanted materials and minerals from entering the drain, like plastic, hair, broken glass, soil, rock, cement, flour, cornstarch, rice, oats, or anything that expands when incorporated with water. Lastly, conduct proper maintenance for your drain, with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda, you can pour it into the drain, this could eliminate the clog, or you can buy other mixtures in the marketplace.

Now, let’s get to the DIY stuff.

Baking soda and vinegar
Use a baking soda and vinegar mixture, this mixture is very easy to make, get 1 cup of vinegar and mix it with about 2 tablespoons of baking soda, you can mix it with hot water too. After the mixture is made, you can now pour it into your tubs’ drain.

Plunger
You can use a plunger too to clear up the clog. Use a cup plunger as it is perfectly made only for sinks and drains. A cup plunger is for flat surfaces, perfect for your tub.

Chemical remover
In the market specifically near the hardware station and chemical station, you would be able to see some clog remover mixtures. Purchase one in the market and use this, this chemical solution will work efficiently too. But before anything else, make sure you have safety gears on like goggles and gloves, as this chemical may be hazardous or corrosive.
