3 ways to find hidden savings inside your home

If you're like most homeowners, budgeting can be a big concern. Rather than spending time cutting coupons and giving up your date night with your spouse, here are 3 ways you can find savings already in your home.

1. Your thermostat
Most people don't realize this, but an outdated thermostat can cost you tens or hundreds of dollars over the course of a year. A lot of energy companies are offering rebates on the newer "Smart" Thermostats, such as the Google Nest. With these rebates you can get a smart thermostat for a huge discount, and sometimes, even for free! With their wifi capability and set heating/cooling schedules, you can save a bunch of money by installing one of these. It is also very simple and you can DIY in under 30 minutes.

2.Meal prep
Besides being a much healthier option, you can save on your Breakfasts, Lunches, and Dinners, by prepping multiple meals at a time. It will also cost less money if you aren't having to preheat your oven every single day. I like prepping my breakfast burritos, baked chicken and rice for lunches, and casseroles for dinner that just need a quick heat-up in the microwave!

3.Homemade cleaners
There are a lot of household cleaners that you can replace with a homemade concoction of things you probably already have laying around. Most things can be cleaned with a mixture of vinegar, water, some lemon juice, and (if you'd like) an added scent. Orange peel and/or mint leaves work great to freshen up the smell! Bonus: swap out the water and lemon juice for bleach and you can use it as a weed killer!
