Have you ever experienced night when you hear water drops in your bathroom causing you to wake up from your relaxing sleep? Well, that’s mainly one of the reasons why you are here in this article. Leaking shower heads don’t only affect you negatively by waking you up in the middle of the night, it could also waste water and cause your water bills to increase and for sure you would not want that. But before getting that problem solved, get to know first the reason/s why your shower head could be leaking so in the future you could avoid it.
Shower handles Sometimes shower handles could be the culprit of this problem. Some shower handles could be damaged, have a factory defect, or was not properly installed, this causes your handle to misaligned. So instead of you fully switching the shower off, the handle would stop right before the shower is really shut off. When the handle is the cause it mostly works by not completely shutting your shower and by that, it leaves part of the handle open which allows water to flow further and causing water to drip in your shower head. Too much water pressure This rarely could be the cause, this only happens if your shower system is already weak. If your shower system’s quality is already weak, and too much water pressure is applied, water might make it through your shower and cause water dripping in your shower head. My advice is lower the water pressure since high water pressure is not really needed. Worn out seal This is the most common reasons why shower heads have leaks. A shower head has O-rings and washers, these parts are to ensure you of having no water leaks. But just like us, due to time, these washers and O-rings could also become weak and eventually break, depending on the quality of the washers and O-rings. If your O-rings or washers break, you would surely have a leak in your shower head. A better solution for this is to replace your shower head. Mineral build-up Through time, calcium or other minerals can build-up in your shower head or its holes, due to these build-ups water could leak out of your shower head. Don’t worry there are home remedies on how to eliminate these mineral build-ups in your shower head. One example is by using vinegar. If you are able to remove your shower head from the pipe, pour some vinegar in a container, fill it up with vinegar and place your shower head in the container, make sure your shower head is fully submerged in vinegar. On the other hand, if you are unable to remove your shower head from the pipe, pour vinegar into a plastic bag and tie the plastic bag in your shower head, make sure the shower head is submerged in the vinegar. For both remedies, leave your shower head submerged overnight, preferably 1 day.
