Our home’s plumbing system and its pipes can eventually get damaged and could end up having a leak. There could be a lot of ways causing these damages. When time passes rust build-up can occur in your pipes and when it gets worse, it could give your pipes holes causing leaks.
Another example is untreated clogs, if you don’t treat your clogged pipes, the clog would become worse and if these clogs have chemicals in them, they could eat and damage your pipes causing holes. Leaks don’t only come out from holes caused by damage, it could also come from your degraded seals. Water will seep out of the seals if the seal has already degraded and failed. Too much water pressure could also cause water leaks. All pipe materials don't last forever, which means you should always take care of them or have them replaced from time to time. Our homes plumbing system and its pipes get damaged from time to time, but it is avoidable. You can always prevent these damages from happening except for accidental damages. So, below are some tips to avoid leaky pipes. Eliminate rust build-up From time to time, apply rust remover solutions to your pipes. Prepare a 50/50 ratio of rust remover and water then mix together completely. After acquiring the solution, pour it into the pipe. This solution would eliminate rust build up in your pipes. Remember to always take precaution because this solution has a high chemical content, and make sure you don’t use this solution to pipes leading to water storage containers. Take note, before applying this solution, make sure to shut off your water supply and get rid of all water left in your pipes. Install new seals Over time, just like our pipes, pipe seals degrade and lose their ability. So install new pipe seals regularly to avoid having old seals that could produce leaks. Check your water pressure Always make sure that your water pressure is at a normal rate, high water pressure could cause leaks too, even if you have just installed a new pipe seal. So check on your water pressure regularly and make sure it doesn’t give too much pressure to your pipes. Avoid having a pest infestation Avoid having pest infestation in your house, especially near your plumbing pipes, rodents like rats or other animals could damage your pipes, and sometimes they could damage them hugely. So always have your house inspected by pest control experts to make sure you don’t have an infestation. Always clean your pipes Clean your pipes regularly, there are some mixtures and solutions you could make to clean your pipes. You can make a vinegar and baking soda mixture, mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 tablespoon of baking soda, then pour the mixture into the pipe. You can also extract lemon juice from 1 lemon and mix it with apple cider vinegar. Another mixture is hot water and liquid detergent solution, mix 2 cups of hot water with 2 tablespoons of liquid detergent, after mixing pour the solution into the pipe. But take note, do not use boiling hot water as it could damage your pipe. Before pouring these solutions into your pipe, make sure that you have shut off your water supply, and have successfully drained all water left in your pipe. Remember to regularly clean your pipes because if you don’t it could lead to a clog, and if you leave that clog, the chemicals in it could damage your pipe. Click here for a great plumbing service!
