Hair can often cause drain clogs. This is because hair constantly collects and stores water. When it gets too big or dense, it becomes difficult for the drainage system of your home to flow properly. This can lead to a variety of problems, such as a blocked sink, clogged drains, and even flooding. It’s important to be aware of the signs that your hair is causing drain clogs and to take steps to clean them up as soon as possible. Some of the common reasons why hair causes drain clogs to include:

Difficulty to Breakdown the Hair

Hair will in most cases undergo entanglement hence quickly building up in one position hence causing clogs. Hair is one of the most difficult types of debris to remove from drains citing their durability, which surpasses expectations from others. The hair can be removed using a variety of methods, but they are not always effective.

Plenty of Oil in the Hair

If your hair is constantly overflowing with oil, it’s likely causing the drain clogs. This is because hair absorbs a lot of oil and water. When this happens, it can become difficult for the drainage system of your home to flow properly. This can lead to a variety of problems, such as a blocked sink, clogged drains, and even flooding. It’s important to be aware of the signs that your hair is causing drain clogs and to take steps to clean them up as soon as possible.

Hair Changes Shape Once in the Drain

Change of shape is a common trait associated with hair. Once it is mixed with water, the hair may blend up making it easy to blend with other forms of hair getting to the region. Constant accumulation of hair will eventually lead to the blockage of drains. The hair may block the drainage system by entangling in the pipes, thereby making it difficult for it to flow. Hardness associated with the hair after accumulation makes its removal very difficult. Hair is one of the hardest materials found on earth and hence, very difficult to remove from drains or any other plumbing system. The entangled hair can easily cause damage to your sink or pipes whenever you try removing it using conventional methods such as using pliers or even a pair of scissors.

Removing Hair from Drain

To prevent clogs from happening, you need to remove hair from the drain. These are some of the techniques for removing hair from drains.

Using a Plumber’s Snake
One of the most common ways to remove hair from a clogged drain is to use a plumber's snake. This is a long instrument that is used to remove hair from the drain in a way that is gentle and effective. With this tool, you will be able to easily remove hair from the outside of the drain and the inside of the sink. The technique is common where the clog is shallow.

Using Boiling Water & Vinegar
One of the most popular methods to remove hair from a clogged drain is using boiling water and vinegar. Boil a pot of water and pour it over the hair. Wait until the water boils, then use a plunger to push the hair out of the way. Repeat this process as needed. The hot water plays a critical role in breaking down soap and grease from the hair, hence making it easier to remove.

Vinegar has a chemical that can break down the oil in hair and remove it from the drains. This method is very effective because it does not involve much effort and takes only a few minutes to complete. Vinegar also helps to stop water from overflowing, which can help your plumbing stay in good condition.

Using Baking Soda
Baking soda is another method used for removing hair from drains. Mix some baking soda with water and pour it over the hair on the drain using a syringe or even a spoon. After pouring in some baking soda, push down on it to make sure that all of the hair is removed from inside and outside of your drain. Repeat this process until all of the hair has been removed from your drain. Apart from mixing with water, the baking soda can also be mixed with Vinegar.
